A Wrap-Up of the Honeymoon

Come hell or high water we were going to make it home yesterday. A 12 hour drive from Durango, CO got us to Rapid City late last night.

It was a wonderful trip and a great time with Zach. This was the most time we had ever spent together in a row. I learned a few new things about him…

He is quite the history and geography buff. I was quizzing him about several foreign countries and their capitals. He knew tons of them (I had to look them up on the internet). He also knew a lot about the history of the places we visited. We argued about the Rocky Mountains and then come to find out I was totally wrong about it all.

He can go all day without a meal. I can’t.

He can pack ten days worth of clothes into one small duffel bag. I had numerous suitcases and bags and still almost ran out of underwear!

He is not afraid of heights. I had to yell at him several times to get away from the edge.

We can entertain ourselves for hours by playing Guitar Hero while driving (not having any instruments or TV screen).

Other interesting things on our trip...

The present day hippie van. Decorated with pop bottle caps, laundry detergent and coffee can lids.

On Friday and Saturday we went to Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly on the Najavo Indian Reservation. Livestock is free to roam wherever. It was nothing to see a herd of horses in the middle of town or flock of sheep at the visitor's center. On one of the highways we came upon a horse that had recently been hit. That was pretty sad. We also saw a 2,000 pound bull that had got smoked as well.

We realized we were a minority at the tourist attractions. Most everyone was over 65 and foreign. And if there was a younger couple, they were foreign.

We had a great time but I'm glad to be home. There's something about sleeping in your own bed that just can't be beat. And, this weekend Lindsey and I get to hang out with Big R while his Mom is working.

Tomorrow it's back to reality as we head to work. But for now I'll enjoy the last few hours of the honeymoon.
